I think if you're a bleach fan, read the manga, or an anime only watcher, it's safe to say that episode 6 was freaking amazing. I would argue this was everything every fan was waiting for. There's a lot to get into about this episode and I'm so excited to talk about it. However, I would like to let you know that this is a no spoiler review! Go watch the episode if you wanna feel like the rest of us, but I'm not dropping any spoilers because that would be....well rude...LETS GO.
First can we touch on how well the animation for this episode was??? If this is what we are getting for major fights, I am ONE HUNDRED PERCENT HERE FOR IT. Everything was so fluid, crisp, detailed, and added so much for what was definitely an epic battle. Studio Pierrot is working super hard over there and I just hope that this continues throughout the entirety of the season. I would hate for us to get this amazingness and then the rest of the fights are wrapped with exposition, or worse, looking horrendous. This episode was definitely the best animated so far and helped add a lot of emotional value overall.
I must give major props to the way flashbacks were used in this episode. In this particular episode we have a grand battle between Captain Yamamoto and Ywach, the main villain for this series. Apparently these two have major history and have fought before, but we get that information as the battle is happening. It's fairly quick flash backs that match up with the current time. Example, one attack would be used in the current battle, but as it's happening it would quickly switch to the past doing the same attack and then back to the current. This would capture the heavy history the two have while they are in epic battle. A very similar thing was used in Naruto for Kakashi vs Obito...only thing it wasn't nearly as long, but it was very detailed.
Captain Yamamoto's full power debut was done so freaking well. This is the leader of the Soul Society. If he's gonna get a fight, he better get a damn good one with some damn good animation. That was for sure delivered. However, I just wanna talk about how intense this man is and how much anger you could feel from him. In the history of Bleach, we have yet to see someone so powerful with so much aggression. He did not play any games and he made sure to let his opponent, and the audience, know that he means MF'N BUSINESS.
Finally, not only did this episode give us some more information about the history of soul society, the history of the captain, and progressed the plot a little more...but it also gave us a major plot twist. Most manga readers already knew what was coming, but even then this twist was still so shocking to see. I think for me, that's due to expectation that was built this entire episode. Everything led to it feeling one way, but the last 3 minutes quickly shifted it to another way. I have to say that this episode was very well directed and will definitely be an episode I go back and re-watch often.
Those are my thoughts for this week's episode. Have you been keeping up with TYBW? Did you watch episode 6? If so, comment and let me know your thoughts for this episode. Thanks for stopping by! Peace!
