VIOLET EVERGARDEN ANIME REVIEW

First of all.....

This series had me balling. I mean I couldn’t keep my eyes dry to save my life and let me tell you…it's been a long time since I’ve cried while watching anime.

There’s this emotionless girl who is an orphan and grows up in the army. Her purpose while in the army was to use her extraordinary combat skills as a weapon during the war. After being bombarded in battle, she wakes up separated from her Major and starts a new life away from the Army working as an auto memory doll to learn what her Majors last words meant before they parted ways. Violet Evergarden is an emotional journey you won’t regret. It’s filled with so many stunning moments and really pulls on your heartstrings. It’s even got a bit of action in there! Some of these fight scenes were kind of popping off, not gonna lie. Doesn’t happen often, but it’s dope when it does.

Also, let’s talk about how GORGEOUS this anime is. I mean every scene is so beautiful. From the color tones to the shot transitions and framing, it’s all incredible. Honestly, you could watch it just for the cinematography alone. To add to that, the music was my favorite part. Definitely gonna have these soundtracks on my this is fire playlists. The series also does a great job connecting you with Violet and allowing you to build your emotions with her emotions. As she learns more about feelings and what it’s like to feel, you begin to FEEL more for her. By the time Violet truly understands her own emotions, you’re a giant crying mess. It guides you with elements like symbolism, little moments, even certain dialogue that’s used. The metaphors hit hard and the little details that help amplify the meaning behind the dialogue keeps you engaged.

Granted, towards the end we start to get hit with a little bit of exposition... which was a little disappointing to me because I felt like up until the last 3 episodes, it was doing so well not over doing it. I also feel like even though this was about Violet, I would’ve like to seen more from the supporting characters. Sometimes they were great for the story, other times it was like “why are you here? What is your purpose?” And the antagonist, or I guess kind of the antagonist but not really, but kinda, but not.....was a little confusing to me. I felt like he was an asshole with no real reason for being one, but by the end of the series he’s cool with Violet? I didn’t get it.. but oh well.. charge it to the game.

With that being said, I have to say that this show really did what it set out to do. Make you feel. You honestly feel what Violet feels and by the end of it, it feels like a success story. She’s finally able to understand her feelings which allows her to truly live the life she deserves. I mean that’s the overarching theme. Saying how you truly feel will allow you to truly live your life.

If you are up for some tears and drama, I would recommend Violet Evergarden. This was definitely hitting more than I expected. Thanks for watching! If you rocked with the video, hit the like button!
