I've gotta be honest here...Romance anime is one of my favorite genres to watch. It was my gate way into this anime life style. I've always enjoyed the story of two people falling in love and what drama comes with it. Weirdly though, I am not this way in real life. I don't watch romance movies that often and I don't typically enjoy seeing couples get together. I'm not sure why, but that's just who I am as of now. HOWEVER...Romance anime is constantly on my list to watch. Here are my recommendations for you!
Horimiya
I loved this anime. I remember it being talked about a lot and now I definitely understand why. It’s sweet, funny, and an interesting love story. The drama never feels like too much and doesn’t overshadow the relationship between the two main characters of the show. The comedic timing for Horimiya is great and pretty realistic. A lot of what happens in this series felt real and you truly buy the connection the main characters have. It's a beautiful anime and I highly encourage you give it a watch!
Your Lie In April
All I can say is this one brings me so many feelings. Well that’s not all I can say. Your Lie in April is absolutely beautiful. This anime follows the story of a boy who is a pianist, but is unable to play to his potential. One day he meets a girl who is a violinist and completely changes his whole world. It’s such a stunning, well animated, and colorful anime. You will find yourself in some heavy moments, but the way these moments are directed is what makes this anime so great to watch and definitely should be added to your watchlist. Be prepared to cry!
Toradora
Anytime someone asks me what romance anime they should watch, I always direct them to this one. I’m super biased as this was the first romance anime I fell in love with. The relationship between the main characters is hilarious but also really sweet and believable. They are so opposite and yet so similar creating wholesome moments and relatable scenes. It might not be everyone’s taste, but it’s dope to me so it’s going on this list.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
Don't let the name fool you. It sounds a bit weird, but it's honestly a great watch. This anime has a very different perspective when it comes to the romance element. The couple ends up together early on in the series. From there you watch how their relationship unfolds, but at some point their relationship is not the main point of the show. The main character helping his friends and being this support system for the people he cares about becomes the focus. It's sweet, emotional, fun, and entertaining.
There will definitely be additions to this list so stay tuned for part two! If you're into romance anime like me, or just looking to get into it, I hope this list is helpful for you. Thanks for stopping by! Peace!
