I'M A LITTLE WORRIED FOR CHAINSAW MAN ( EPISODE 6 REVIEW)

I have to be honest with you... I was definitely disappointed with this week's episode. I'm currently a new fan of Chainsaw man. I've only read one or two chapters of the manga, but I'm not fully invested like others are. However, I've become a pretty big fan of the anime since it's debut. With that being said, this week's episode just felt, well, slow... Here's my thoughts.

Let's start with episode 5. I didn't feel the need to talk about it, even though it was kind of bizarre,  because I wasn't sure where the series was going. Like I said, I'm a new fan. I have no real clue what to expect for this anime. Everything is very new to me so I figured I would wait around for the next episode. However, I did feel like episode 5 didn't really do much for me, personally, when it came to the plot of the series. It felt very slow and as if it wasn't going anywhere. It wasn't until we got to their next mission that I started to go, "okay we got some action". Here's where I started to get problems.

To make this pretty quick, episode 6 has pacing issues. In episode 5, Denji and the squad (cause I don't feel like listing all the names lol) are out to find the Gun Devil. They get a lead that brings them to this hotel. Once they get to the eighth floor they find themselves stuck in a loop and are mad confused about what's going on. In episode 6, we spend almost all of the episode doing literally nothing about it. We're told that Aki, one of the devil hunters, is investigating but we barely get any focus on that. He just comes back with little information. Like, duh bro we could've told you that.

The episode spends a little time on some flashbacks so we do get to know a little bit more about Aki and his partner, Himeno. I will give it that, but it's not a lot to work with. Plus, a lot of what we got (non flash back wise) was repetitive. For example, it's told to us this episode that devils thrive off fear. Well, there's a squad member who is freaking out the whole episode. Don't get me wrong, I get her being afraid, but when it's beaten over your head it starts to get annoying and a little frustrating. In this situation, it's clear that the team's bravery and toughness is deteriorating the longer they stay stuck in this loop. We should be feeling the weight of that, but that get's taken away from us because of homegirl who can't chill out for two seconds. I think it would've been much more effective to watch every character break except the devils, and then go to the resolution we end up getting. I'm not the director though..

Here's my concern...This season is only 12 episodes. Sure, it's likely we are going to get many more season's, but right now we are supposed to only be working with 12 episodes. When you have one or two episodes like this, it actually becomes even more critical to make sure the pacing is well because you have less time to tell the story. If this was a 20 or 24 episode series for season one, I honestly wouldn't be so bothered. That's not what's happening though. Every episode feels crucial and when you get two episode back to back that feel very slow, it affects the viewing experience. At least that's how I feel about it. I have hopes that this series will still turn out great, but it's just a little worrisome.

How did you feel about episode 6, and episode 5, of Chainsaw Man? Do you feel any concern or do you think everything will be just fine and you have high hopes for the series? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by. Peace!
